Galleria Duemila
Galleria Duemila opened on December 5, 1975, and is known as the longest-running commercial gallery in the Philippines. Its founder, Silvana Ancellotti-Diaz, comes from northern Italy. While working as an Alitalia flight attendant, she met the artist Ramon Diaz in Manila and moved there. Under martial law, she opened the gallery in a small rented office in Makati, with money lent by her father-in-law, who called it "the worst investment of my life." "Duemila" is Italian for 2000 — a forward-looking name that held up a future year in the mid-1970s. Since 2006, the gallery has been based in a building on the grounds of the family home on Loring Street, Pasay City. Alongside works by modern masters such as Pacita Abad, Jose Joya and Arturo Luz, it has held solo exhibitions by artists who are still active, such as Trek Valdizno and Impy Pilapil. Another distinctive feature: it produces a catalogue for almost every exhibition and publishes them free on Issuu. In January 2026, it held a 50th anniversary exhibition of 47 works by 37 artists. We recommend it to anyone who wants to sense the flow of Philippine modern art in a single room. As it is on a residential property, it is best to get in touch before visiting.
